KJM - Rig Move Operations

KJM Rig Move was set up in October 2004. KJM saw a need for another service provider within the industry and started working on this project. KJM Rig Move grew to a stage where we had 12 people on each team.

The KJM Rig move crew work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. Crew change occurs through our Air Charter Company and we fly direct to where the Rig Move operation is. Through a 4hr change over we can continue to move rigs and also change crew out on the same day with 0 down time.

The operation is fully supported with a system which enables our Rig Move team to move through out the work area and not have to rely on a service centre. This was achieved by creating a trailer which could carry a 10,000L Diesel tank, 8,000L Potable water tank and a 20’ insulated workshop fully equipped with all the service parts and equipment required. Also fitted with 2 showers, this system is powered by a diesel generator which also powers the 12 person bunk house which the rig move operators sleep in.

Both KJM Rig move teams have the following personnel to make this strategic operation function.

  1. Truck Pusher
  2. Mechanic
  3. 3 x Bed Truck drivers
  4. 2 x Hay Hauler drivers
  5. 3 x Winch Truck drivers
  6. Loader driver
  7. Slinger

The skills within the group meant either operator could do one another’s job if required and after the Rig Moves were completed all pitch in to do the maintenance. The equipment supplied for the specialised job was pre selected from the experienced gained from overseas operations and also from other operations within Australia.

Equipment purchased was as follows

  1. 2 x 78 Series 4WD
  2. 1 x Toyota Landcruiser Troopcarrier
  3. 3 x C-501 Kenworth Winch Trucks fitted with 100,000# winches
  4. 2 x C-501 Kenworth with sleepers
  5. 3 x Bed Trucks fitted with 100,000lb Winch
  6. 1 x Cat 950 quick release 3 way attachment loader balanced to gain optimum lift capability
  7. 4 x 60’ Drop Deck x 10’ Wide Roll Trailer floats
  8. 3 x 60’ Flat Top Roll Trailers
  9. 8 x 45’ tri axle Roll trailers
  10. Workshop and drivers camp.

With this type of equipment we could split it up to be able to do 2 Rig Moves on the same day. With all the 4WD’s and Truck’s having Satellite communication systems communication within the group allows for an instant change in plans.

From our Adelaide supply chain through P/O and usage sheets the workshop stock is full. Supplied every week with the Cooper Basin general run from Adelaide.
